First General Services of Colorado Springs Inc. is an unlimited licensed contractor specializing in (but not limited to) insurance repair related projects. First General Services exists or can exist in all of the United States of America with the home office in Florida . First General Services of Colorado Springs is not a franchise as franchise is financially defined.
Due to the early establishment of the Colorado Springs branch of First General Services, neither percentages of revenue nor large fees are due to the home office as part of the arrangement between First General Services of Colorado Springs Inc. and the home office known as First General Services in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The Colorado Springs branch was awarded to Ben Modrell and Donald Smith in 1981 as principals of an existing company known as Foremost Construction. Foremost Construction ceased to do business after the 1986 tax law change related to the commercial building industry. Ben Modrell and Donald Smith carried forward as principals of First General Services only. The construction license held by the company is the highest construction license available.
In 90's...
In June 1992, Scott D. Smith, the son of Donald Smith, moved to Colorado Springs and became part of the company as an estimator. The intent of Donald Smith was to replace Ben Modrell with Scott D. Smith as his partner. In 1996 the buyout of Ben Modrell was completed. In 1997, Scott d. Smith became the A-1 license examinee by passing the State of Colorado ‘A’ license exam in Denver, Colorado.
Since 1992, the company has grown through three locations to currently reside at 1625 Tuskegee Place, Suite 160, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80915. The company has grown from two principals and one secretary over-seeing subcontractors to a fifteen-person company plus subcontractors since 1992. Having an unlimited license allows First General Services to perform these services in any building in El Paso County. We are also licensed in several other counties.
New millennium...
In the spring of 2001, Donald Smith and Scott D. Smith decided to purchase the franchises known as Ceiling Pro of the Front Range and Ceiling Pro of Colorado Springs from Ceiling Pro International of Minnesota. The primary purpose of this entity is cleaning and restoration of ceiling tile and grid systems. However, due to the effective cleaning properties of the solutions, Ceiling Pro cleans all finish building materials. Ceiling Pro operates in both residential and commercial buildings with the focus being in the commercial environment.
In the fall of 2002, Donald Smith and Scott D. Smith decided to create a separate cleaning company from First General Services. The name of the new company is Cleanmaster Services. This company will operate primarily as a residential cleaning and restoration company focusing on fire and water restorations, carpet and upholstery cleaning and 24-hour emergency services related to fire and water emergencies.
Current management is in growth mode for First General Services and all of its entities. Issues related to company growth, employee relations, company performance and responsibility levels to employees and to the community are first and foremost in the forward going decision-making processes of this management team.
In September of 2006 First General Services completed their 16,500 square foot commercial project in which we have now moved our operations into. It is located at 1625 Tuskegee Pl. unit 160, Colorado Springs, CO. 80915.
